  • Nonprofit Tax Manager

    Qualifications

    In order to be considered for this position, you must have:

    • Non-profit accounting and tax experience (required)
    • Experience in overseeing preparers and making sure all 990s are scheduled among staff appropriately
    • Experience in overseeing and reviewing the preparation and review of Form 990 and other related tax returns for non-profit entities
    • Experience in training staff to prepare non-profit tax returns
    • Experience in advising non-profit clients on tax matters related to maintaining their tax-exempt status
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective client interaction and internal collaboration
    • Participate in internal and external training sessions for clients, staff and organizations related to developments in non-profit accounting and tax compliance.

  • Seasonal Tax Preparer

    Do you enjoy preparing tax returns and working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment? Dugan + Lopatka is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Seasonal Tax Preparer to join our Tax Department. Located in Chicago’s western suburbs, D+L is an innovative and forward-thinking public accounting firm focused on serving privately held businesses and their owners.

    This is a seasonal position with hours that vary based on workload, typically requiring increased availability during the busy season (late January through April 15) and occasional additional work during the fall extension period (August through October). Must be able to commit at least 30 hours a week from late January through April 15. This role offers an opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals and gain exposure to a wide range of client types and tax situations.

    Responsibilities:

    • Prepare federal and state income tax returns for closely held businesses, individuals, and trusts
    • Assist with tax planning and projections
    • Maintain organized workpapers and documentation to support filings
    • Research and interpret federal and state tax laws, regulations, and other authoritative sources
    • Demonstrate accountability and ownership for assigned work and deadlines.
    • Communicate proactively with clients and internal team members to gather information, manage expectations, and ensure deadlines are met.
    • Maintains a client-service mindset, responding to inquiries in a timely and professional manner
    • Manage workload while meeting time and budget expectations

    Qualifications:

    • 2+ years of tax preparation experience in public accounting preferred, including hands-on experience with business returns (Forms 1120, 1120S, and 1065)
    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred
    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
    • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks effectively
    • Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work both independently and as part of a team
    • Demonstrated problem-solving and critical thinking skills
