Tax Manager (Full-Time)
Dugan + Lopatka is seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join our growing Tax Department. This role is designed for a technically strong professional who takes pride in delivering high-quality work, managing client relationships, and leading engagement execution.
This is a full-time, hybrid position based in Chicago’s western suburbs, serving closely held businesses, their owners, and related entities.
Responsibilities:
- Review and manage preparation of federal and state income tax returns for closely held businesses, individuals, and trusts
- Own engagements from planning through delivery, including timelines, staffing, and client communication
- Ensure work is complete, accurate, and supported by clear documentation
- Analyze and resolve technical tax issues; escalate when appropriate
- Provide direct, actionable feedback to staff and seniors; support development through coaching
- Communicate proactively with clients to manage expectations and deliverables
- Maintain accountability for engagement timelines, budgets, and overall execution
- Contribute to and help lead tax planning and advisory engagements, focusing on practical outcomes
- Manage multiple engagements while maintaining quality and responsiveness
- Support continuous improvement in processes, workflow, and team communication
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience at the manager level in public accounting
- Strong technical foundation across pass-through entities, individual taxation, and multi-state compliance
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage engagements and make informed technical decisions
- High attention to detail
- Strong organizational and time management skills; able to prioritize effectively across competing demands
- Clear, direct communicator with both clients and internal teams
- CPA or EA required
- International Tax Experience a plus, but not required.
